Site Assessment Workshop

In person, Saturday, July 27—10 a.m.-4 p.m.

Before investing in farmland, you need to find a place that is right for your business and your life. This full-day workshop is for anyone searching for farmland, and is suitable for crop, livestock, and agroforestry producers.

With OEFFA staff and Extension educators, explore topography, land infrastructure, location, soil and water, and other important considerations. The workshop includes hands-on activities, a site visit to a 3rd-generation family farm and some really cool tech tools! Breakfast, lunch and snacks are provided.

Gain the knowledge and confidence in your own land assessment skills, plus connections with a team of supportive technical assistants. Find land that can make your farm dreams a reality!

Cost and Registration: $125. This includes breakfast, lunch, and snacks. Registration closes on July 22. Space is limited.

This workshop will take place in two locations in Preble County, Ohio—registrants will receive exact addresses. Registrants are responsible for their own transportation to and between locations (about a 20 minute drive).

Please bring appropriate clothing including substantial, closed toed footwear, rain gear, and sun protection. This workshop will happen rain or shine. There are no stairs at either location, but walking in unpaved farm fields and forested areas is needed.

All classroom materials, including worksheets, maps, and presentations, will be provided in English. OEFFA staff is happy to provide language or any other accessibility accommodations needed—please note this when registering.

Thanks to funding from the USDA 2501 grant, partial registration scholarships are available for Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) participants. Learn about the USDA 2501 Program.
